πŸ“œ Quest decisions: cost first, reward second

1. The 60-second gate: four things you cannot lose

A quest is not free loot. Its risk can land at home, on the world map, or on a temporary map. Pause at the offer and work through the four checks.

Ask firstCheck nowWait when this is true
Can people leave?Count the doctor, cook, builder, grower, and defenders remaining.Leaving removes the last reliable healer, cook, or defender.
Can home hold?Check food, medicine, power, the next defense line, and critical construction. You just had a raid, the freezer is unstable, or injuries are queued.
Is there enough time?Read the accept timer, completion timer, route, return trip, and recovery margin. You must leave at once with no supplies margin.
What does failure cost?Read the target, faction, borrowed people, and conditions at home. You only saw the reward, not the relationship or ongoing threat.
βœ… Accept when: food, treatment, and defense still have a fallback after the quest starts. A pricey reward alone is not enough.

2. Two timers, two decisions

TimerMeaningRight response
Acceptance limitHow long you can still consider the offer.Use it to harvest, stock medicine, and assign defenders; do not accept just because the popup appeared.
Completion limit / durationHow long the objective must be completed or maintained after acceptance.Plan backward from the real deadline, not from departure day.
No limitSome long-term or endgame quests do not force an immediate start.Treat it as a project, not a reason to neglect current survival.

The quest panel states conditions and timers. DLC, mods, and quest type change details, so use the current popup as the final authority.

3. Four quest risk patterns

Quest situationMain costLast check before accepting
Rescue or crash victimTreatment load and a new threat can arrive at home.Hospital beds, doctors, defensible indoor space, and an evacuation route for noncombatants.
Outpost or world-map targetThe expedition leaves home and consumes supplies both on route and on site.Round-trip food, medicine, combat strength, and the defense left behind.
Temporary guests or escortYour base carries housing, mood, or defense requirements.Spare rooms, food, medical capacity, and whether guests can reach dangerous weapons.
Delivery or condition questYou give up stock or endure an environmental / hostile condition.Whether your survival floor remains after delivery, and whether the condition stacks with current weather or power trouble.
⚠️ Do not guess difficulty from the title: enemies, timers, and rewards scale by colony state. The offer's target, location, and duration are the facts for this run.

4. Is the reward worth the risk?

RewardWorth it whenNot worth risking now when
Medicine, key materials, gearIt closes an immediate medical, defensive, or production gap.The quest first creates hunger, blackout, or an undefended home.
Goodwill or honorYou have a concrete faction goal and failure will not damage your current position. The number looks nice but has no near-term use.
New pawn or temporary laborThey fill a real role and you have food, beds, and work ready.Population, treatment, or mood is already at the limit.
Rare itemIt immediately improves combat or survival. It only raises wealth without matching defense.

Once loot arrives, check Wealth Management; do not trade one reward for stronger raids without preparing for them.

5. After accepting: pause and assign four things

  1. Mark the endpoint: confirm location, timer, success condition, and failure condition.
  2. Name the home team: keep medical care, cooking, firefighting, and a defendable core.
  3. Build the expedition list: match food, medicine, weapons, and roles to the route and target.
  4. Prepare home: set a safe area and verify freezer, power, and hospital; home survival comes first during the quest.

For route and supplies use Trade & Economy; for combat use Combat & Defense; for injuries go directly to Medical Care.
